I have a recommendation for the mommas, the daughters, and everyone in general. Secret Daughter, by Shilpi Somaya Gowda is an outstanding book. It centers around three women, Somer, Kavita, and Asha. Somer is a doctor from San Fransisco, who is married to the love of her life, and wants to start a family, but she cannot conceive. Halfway around the world, Kavita, in attempt to save her daughter’s life, gives her to an orphanage. And thus we are brought into the life of Asha, the daughter of Somer and the secret daughter of Kavita. Throughout the book, you will follow the journeys of all three women, and their stories are weaved together perfectly.
The women of Secret Daughter, Somer, Kavita, and Asha will steal your heart, open your eyes, and your soul. You will feel for all them; you laugh when they laugh, you cry when they cry, you smile when they smile. It’s beautifully written. My goddaughter is adopted. And, she has a wonderful mother. But if she ever has questions about the woman who gave birth to her, well, I think I’d give her this book. And hopefully she wouldn’t ever feel alone.
Well done, Shilipi Somaya Gowda, well done! I cannot wait to see what you come out with next.
