Oh my goodness! I just finished reading Don’t Breathe a Word, by Jennifer McMahon, and let me tell you, it was a real treat! It is fast paced, it is enthralling, and it is just a fabulous psycho-thriller. For those of you that are not into the “chick-lit” genre, this is the book for you! It’s AWESOME.
One summer night, Lisa, a vibrant and imaginative 12-year-old, disappears. Prior to her disappearance, Lisa tells her younger brother Sam that she is leaving to go to the Land of the Fairies. She is going to live happily ever after with the King of the Fairies and become his Fairy Queen.
Fast forward fifteen years later, and Phoebe has fallen head over heels in love with Sam. They are living a life of unending bliss, until Phoebe receives a phone call from a female, claiming that Lisa is back from the land of the fairies. Is this someone playing a cruel joke? Is it possible that Lisa is alive after all of these years? What’s real? Are their childhood nightmares coming back to haunt them all?
McMahon weaves the world of reality and fantasy expertly, and there are points in this book where I promise that you will be questioning if there really are magical forces at work in this book.
